For as long as I have sold my pattern booklets, I have also conducted courses and given lectures. I love to teach and spend quite a lot of time on that in other aspects of my life as well.
Here you see my set of “standard courses” that I can give with relatively short notice. Of course, you are welcome to ask for a tailored course too. Please contact me for prices.

Longer Courses

Basic Course in Viking Age Clothing

5 days. 5-10 participants.

Basic theory on the sources for the Viking age clothing and sewing techniques. Practical exercise in the basic Viking age seams and stitches. Each participant selects a garment to make; we tailor the patterns, cut and sew. During the course all sewing is done by hand.

Seams and Stitches

1 day. 5-10 participants.

Practical exercise in all known Viking age seams and stitches with information on how they were used. Practical exercises in techniques for e.g. slits, ends of gores, and gathering.

Sark and Smokkr

3 days. 5-10 participants.

We tailor patterns, cut and sew a sark and a smokkr of your choice. During the training all sewing is done by hand, so some experience in sewing by hand is expected.

Trousers

2 days. 5-10 participants.

We tailor patterns, cut and sew a pair of trousers of your choice. During the training all sewing is done by hand, so some experience in sewing by hand is expected.

Workshops

Viking Age Embroidery

2-3 hours. 5-10 participants.

Practical exercises in embroidery stitches and patterns used in Scandinavia during the Viking age.

Make a York Cap

2-3 hours. 5-10 participants.

We cut and sew a York/Dublin/Lincoln cap as close to the original as possible.

Lectures

Viking Age Clothing

ca 2 hours.

Basic walkthrough of how the people in Scandinavia dressed during the Viking age; what we know and what we don’t know. Demonstration of reconstructed garments.
