Interesting!
Your page describing your new Cords and Braids booklet says that “several finds of knitting spools e.g. Sigtuna and Lund” have been made, and are dated to the 11th century. Does your book give citations to sources that discuss those finds? I was not aware of them. Please let me know.
Hi Catherine,
my source for the knitting spools/lucets from Sigtuna is the exhibition at Sigtuna museum, where I went last spring. I didn’t know about them before that either. They had this one on display: https://www.pinterest.se/pin/404479610273597244/ and the text connected to it said that it was from the 11th century. I have not been able to find more documentation about the lucets from Sigtuna. My source for the lucets from Lund is mostly this blog post: https://halldorviking.wordpress.com/2012/11/04/lucets-and-lucetting/. It has a reference to Blomqvist R 1963 (in Swedish) which I unfortunately have not read. I realize that I have to do that 🙂
Best regards, Susanna
Thanks for the information.
